It is long past time I did this, assuming it hasn't happened automatically already:

Hmmm, I never had this issue when I was RG.  My instinct is that the prohibition only applies to regular scheduled elections, but the de-registration law does not specify that.  It simply says an election "in which they are eligible to participate", which I suppose includes special elections.
