I think this gives more freedom to the voters.  It enables them to split their votes, if they so choose.  Really, that is the only thing this changes.  I'm sure that parties will continue to nominate/endorse a "ticket", meaning a candidate for each office.

I agree with just about everything Marokai has said.  I am not in favor of abolishing the office, I simply want to make the election more democratic and interesting.  Instead of abolishing the office, I would like to expand its powers by eliminating the office of the PPT.  This would change the office into an extremely important one- elected by the people, not just by the Senate.  I may propose an amendment as such, after Jas's amendment (hopefully) fails.

Not at all.  The Vice-President would ascend, and the office of VP would be temporarily vacant until a nominee is confirmed.  In the interim, the Dean would run the Senate.

Nay to the amendment.

Jas, both of the amendments you have proposed are complete re-writes, completely and totally changing the original legislation.  I wish you would introduce them as seperate items.

Jas needs the concurrence of one-third of the Senate to override the PPT.

Whew!  Now, if Jas will stop amending this, perhaps we can get something done here.  Tongue

As I've previously stated, my only purpose is to make the elections a little more interesting, and more democratic.  Currently, a voter cannot vote for a presidential candidate of one party, and a VP candidate of another- unless the parties themselves build their tickets as such.  This amendment gives voters this freedom.

I will agree with Jas to a point, however: the Vice-Presidency is a largely useless office, despite its necessity.  I therefore further propose the following amendment to this amendment.  This should be added as section 2, if adopted:

This makes the Vice-Presidency a very significant office indeed, and puts the question of who will lead the Senate into the hands of the voters rather than just the Senate.  And why does the Senate need both a President and a PPT??

Your opposition is noted, and was expected.
