God, this would probably harden Trump's support even more. He would spin it as the liberal machine trying to take him down and impede the "progress" him/his supporters are making.

Seriously?!? The Sheriff of Fayetteville, NC is the "Liberal Machine". The city that hasn't voted for anyone but Republicans since the 1976 Presidential Elections?
Cumberland County, home of Fayetteville, actually voted for Obama by 20%. The county actually swung his way in 2012. It's rapidly moved to the Democrats since Bush won it in 2004.
