Berkley county Delegate Larry Faircloth is already in for the Rs.

Goodwin would probably be the best candidate for the Ds, IMO.

I think Goodwin is the best option to go against Capito in the Senate race, he'd at least be better than Rahall.

It would be suicide for Goodwin to try against Capito. There are only two feasible scenarios that would lead Goodwin to take the plunge:

- He's holding his breath and hoping that Capito is knocked out in the primary, similar to what Donnelly did in IN. Unlike IN, though, Goodwin doesn't have the luxury of having an anointed tea party challenger waiting in the wings for Capito.

- He's trying to raise his name rec for something in the future (maybe Gov after Tomblin).

I'd be prepared to punt on this Senate seat, as well as an open SD seat, in order to shore up the handful of other red state Dems.

The latest Republican name, Alex Mooney, was the chair of the state party...in Maryland.

Has Goodwin commented on speculation on a potential House run (I know he's denied a Senate campaign)?

He mentioned that he has small kids, so I think that would also preclude him for running from the House.

I'm curious to see what polling Tennant has seen that shows a possible path to victory in the Senate race. She should go with CD2 instead.

Capito is warning the Republicans that holding her House seat could be harder than they expect.

Might as well post this in this thread:

Glen Gainer, WV's longtime State Auditor and a guy who many hoped would run for Senate, is looking at a run against McKinley in WV-01.

http://wvmetronews.com/glen-gainer-considers-congressional-run/

Gainer carried the district 59/41 in his reelection last year, FWIW.

The National Journal has a spot on Alex Mooney, the ex-Maryland GOP Chair who moved to WV just to run for this seat.
