I think Americans have had the most national heroes of any nation.

Israel has a large number of heroes, even in their short history.

Golda Meir
David Ben Gurion
Ariel Sharon(I'm not sure about his current status though)
Yitzhak Rabin(hero to the liberals)
Moshe Dayan
Eliezer Ben-Yehuda
Teddy Kollek
Rav Kook

Saint George our Patron Saint probably. The English flag is the St. George's Cross. Despite this, nothing much happens on St. George's Day and no one seems to care.....

For the UK as a whole I don't know though

You have more than that.  Churchill is one.  I can't remember the names but the chap who beat Napoleon at Walloon in his second resurgence and the fellow who beat the Spanish armada should also be held in high regard.

Lord Nelson, one of my heroes

Every faction is Israel has many national heroes. An Israeli rightwinger would be furious that you list did not include Jabotinsky, Begin, Shamir, Eitam, or either Netanyahu. And Sharansky too. The astronaut's name was Col. Ilan Ramon, he also flew the bombing mission that destroyed the Osirak reactor, which was followed by Begin's famous "Never Again" speech. Kodratos, are you a Sabra?

No I'm not. I was going to add for comedy's sake Yigal Amir. I can't believe I forgot Ze'ev Jabotinsky though. Begin was cool, but I don't think he is really a "hero". Netanyahu is a personal favorite of mine. I would like to see him replace Sharon.

P.S. Are you Jewish? What branch do you follow if so?
