I know it would naturally be assumed that, by starting the thread, I would have "signed in", but as for a fail-safe, Press Secretary Dallasfan65 signing in.

I would like sign-ins to continue, but I also believe we should have some nominations for whom to chair the convention.

Well, given the overwhelming support I've received, I suppose I should begin chairing the convention, unless there are any objections. I can only hope I'm equal to the task that I've been given.

Before I call for a vote on re-election of Chairman, Whip, ETC, I would like to schedule a vote on a proposal to amend our by-laws: specifically, Leadership.

Basically, this proposal would consolidate the HR Director and Treasurer, giving their responsibilities to a new entity. This also eliminates my own position, (Press Secretary.) While I enjoyed my tenure, I felt like there wasn't much activity on my part, due to the lack of newsletters ATM. The less bureaucracy, the better.

I would like to call for a separate vote on this aswell,

Quote

This vote shall not begin until 6:00 PM (Atlas time, not Daylight Savings Time), giving those users who have not yet posted a chance to oppose me chairing the convention, if they are against it.

So, Official Ballot for this vote:

Consolidation of HR Director and Treasurer: Aye or Nay
Addition of an Election Clerk: Aye or Nay

(Edit: Those whom are running for re-election for their Leadership positions or are interested in running for Leadership positions, feel free to declare. I would like to give everyone ample time to do so, so I can have a ballot ready after this vote. Libertas has informed me he plans on running for re-election as Whip.)

Oh, sorry.

Understandable Smiley

Your candidacy for whip is valid, however, so I'll be making note of that when I make the ballots.

Good work. I've actually got them saved on a word doc, and would advise others to do the same.

I should probably post a list of the revised by-laws if this passes.

By a vote of 10-2, the Consolidation Act passes.

By a unanimous vote, Addition of an Election Clerk passes. The leadership section now reads:

I will allow additional time for declarations, and the vote for Party Leadership will begin on Monday, 9:00 PM. This will give ample time for those intending on running to declare, and also allow for other issues to be discussed.

For obvious reasons, though there is an absence in our party's by-laws, we should have discussion on the status of NiK's vote.

Agreed with Giovanni. I don't know what NiK was doing, but I don't think he counts as an official Popularis.
The problem is our by-laws don't actually address that, however.

Once an election clerk is appointed, we could look into this matter. I'd like discussion on this to continue.

To my dear friends and colleagues,

Could we make this less of a circus and more of a convention?

As chairman of the convention, I'd ask that everyone resume this through PM, messenger, or other avenues.

It does not behoove us to publicly display such bickering.

Unfortunately, it seems that whichever candidate is elected to the position of Whip, we will have to address the threat of factionalism being promoted through this office.
I wonder if we might consider making the Deputy Whip an elected position in order to achieve a more balanced and inclusive party effort.
Interesting proposal, but the Deputy Whip is really more intended to be the Whip's personal assistant. It is very conceivable (our current state of the convention is an example) that the Whip and Deputy Whip would be a pair of "compromise" candidates, and would be staunch enemies, or opposed to eachother, and have questionable ability to execute their duties.

This is a breath of fresh air in comparison to our previous clamor, but I'd ask my colleagues to bring more serious points of discussion to the table. Any recommendations on what our by-laws should tackle, since I'll be holding another vote after 6?

Well, it's 6:00 and voting is closed! I will be doing a tally some time tonight, unless someone else is inclined to do their own. (Perhaps put their name out for Election Clerk Wink )

In any event, I would like to hold a vote to amend our by-laws to read as such:

I will allow for some debate to go on for this, but voting will begin at 9:00 PM, Atlas time.

Well, in light of the discussion after the alloted time for dialogue, I will be tabling the vote until there has been sufficient debate.

How about a counter proposal, one that wouldn't put the outcome of somebody's vote in the hands of a potentially Dictatorial Election Clerk.

(4). An Atlasian must have been a member of the Popular Party for at least one week prior to, to participate in the Popular Party Leadership elections.

I like Giovanni's proposal. Unless there are any objections, I will be putting it to a vote sometime tomorrow afternoon.

I will be allowing maximum time for voting on it, since it is serious business. Wink

It sounds good but then if you got somebody to commit vote fraud before a Populares election and you knew when the election was being held, then you could just get that somebody to register with the Populares Party a week before the election. I am new to Atlasian politics, so maybe this scenario is implausible, but that's just a thought.

If a voter is suspect, we can merely bump the previous convention thread and hold an expulsion vote, in such a scenario.
