This video response that Trump just released is probably the calmest and most subdued I’ve ever seen him.

At least so far, I’m still watching.

UPDATE:
He has never sounded like that.  Extreme tone change.  Calling for peace and unity.  With a mix of complaining about social media blocking him.  He’s worried about legal consequences now, I think, and maybe trying to save his legacy.

He's clearly in a secure bunker and has no control over anything he says.

Yea, it was actually bizarre because he was so calm and calling for unity.  He’s never once called for unity, at least not like that.

I don’t buy any of it, but i’m sure some will.

As Donald Trump puts out statements written by his sane lawyers to try and defend himself, one of his insane lawyers makes a statement of his own.

Is this real life?

Trump is now at 29% approval and 68% disapproval according to the Pew poll.  Republican support dropping to 60%.  I hope this is a trend and not an outlier.

Biden is at 58% approval and 39% disapproval.

Have many Trump supporters been around since Trump attempted a coup?

I’ve only seen Del Tachi post a few times, and have yet to hear from Fuzzy Bear or SirWoodbury.

I hopeful that they now see they were wrong to support him but I also kinda doubt it.

It looks now the only person that is gonna remove Trunp again is Mitt Romney, the D's waited too long to start an Impeachment trial and that is being Generous. 2/9/21 bye Impeachment

I think Murkowski may vote for impeachment but otherwise you’re probably right.  Democrats sat on this for too long, and they also didn’t manage to keep it in the public’s mind this whole time.  That gave Republicans every opportunity to squash it and turn around any would-be conviction votes.  The few sensible Republicans in Congress are also scared to be censured back home now too, or afraid of being primaried.

They really need to make the Senate vote anonymous.

Yeah, at this point I'm good reducing the NG presence pretty dramatically. Maybe not all the way to zero, but there's no reason to keep DC in post-January 6th mode unless there's a specific threat.

I think it should be scaled back but still keep a sizable presence in the area.

Republicans attacked this country on January 6th, and until the threat of future Republican terrorism subsides, a military presence in DC should remain.

Hitler became dictator on the second try.  We need to stop referring to what happened on January 6 as a "riot" or a "protest" and call it what it was--the attempted overthrow of our government.

These people did not go away.

There needs to be consequences for all involved or this becomes dress rehearsal for the next insurrection.

And every time I call these people traitors, and point blank call out posters like Fuzzy Bear or SirWoodbury for their treason, I am silenced by the mods.  Republicans are traitors, all of them, and I will never not call them that.  Not after who they uplifted into power, knowing full well what he was capable of, excusing the terrorists on January 6, and continuing to promote an election conspiracy theory.  They are all traitors.

All 70 million? That's quite the generalization.

I don't like the Republican Party either, but most Republicans disapproved of the attempted insurrection on January 06 (far from excusing them), and many Republicans have accepted the results of the election (and more will continue to do so as time goes on and Biden remains in the White house).

These sweeping statements are not healthy for our democracy, and if that's the type of stuff the moderators are removing, I'm all for it.

Also, do you have a proposed solution for dealing with the alleged treason of 70 million people? You can't lock up 70% of Wyoming's population, and you're definitely not gonna rehabilitate Republicans by calling them traitors over and over.

All that needs to be done is consequences for the people directly involved who attended the insurrection, like the Confederate flag guy, the viking hat guy, and maybe Trump and Hawley too.

Yea, not making generalizations would be fine and all.

Except that Republicans knew going into this exactly the kind of person Trump is...the threat to democracy he posed was on full display the whole time...and he point blank said he would not accept any result in which he lost, saying there would be no peaceful transfer of power...yet they overwhelmingly supported him anyway, and continue to do so.

At a certain point, it is no longer acceptable to vote for a demagogue because they support your view of abortion.  When the cost is literally the destruction of the United States government?  Yea, that makes one a traitor.

60% of the people charged thus far had a history of financial troubles such as bankruptcies, evictions, and staggering debt.

This seems to be a far more significant statistic than the 1-out-of-5 insurrectionists who are either active-duty or veterans (my guess is they were mostly knuckleheads who got kicked out).

So they just had some economic anxieties then...
