TO: President PBrunsel FROM: Senator John Ford
Given recent news on the Sudanese governments blatant disregard for human life and liberty, I urge the President to order military attacks on the Khartoum regime.
Five months ago, I backed the Sudanese government into stopping the genocide in Darfur and convinced the Afican Union to begin peacekeeping in Darfur. The Sudanese government has, as I feared they might, broken that agreement. There must be consequences for this misbehavior by one of the world's leading state sponsors of terrorism.
Therefore, I urge the President to strike back at the Sudan. During the last confrontation, we constucted enough bases in neighboring nations to sustain air attacks on the Sudan and we trained a regiment of Army Rangers to enter Darfur in case we had to deploy ground troops. The Janjaweed are lightly armed, in many cases using only swords to spread their terror. I urge the President and his national security team to take advantage of our preparedness, and I urge any citizen to become a signatory to this open letter. I know our President, he is a good man, and he will do what is right if we as a nation stand behind him.
-Senator John Douglas Ford
