Mr Matthews,

As you know, I just registered in Atlasia and you are one of my Northeast Assemblymen. I know an election is coming up next month and you're seeking a second term. Could you tell me a little bit more about your legislative record?

I've read through your flat tax proposal, and find it odd that you proposed:

The words "or health hazards" were removed by amendment. I understand your commitment to fairness in taxation, but isn't this sort of a handicap on responsible government measures in the future to alter tax rates? If government can invoke a legitimate claim to amelioration of wrong on behalf of the people through taxation's "power to destroy", why should it not be permitted to take action? What say you?

Also, while I see nothing wrong with lowering legislators' salaries to match the income of the common man, isn't the revenue that would be gained from such a measure rather insignificant? I do not doubt your motives, but the bill that you authored to this effect seems like a triviality.

I look forward to a bit of lively discussion!

Yours in anticipation,

In such a situation I would propose that we cut spending that is unnessecary rather than take money away from the hard working Northeast Citizens.

Okay, that's perfectly reasonable, but section 6 is a step too far nonetheless. It seems to me more responsible to cut spending through new legislation, as you suggest, rather than to necessitate spending cuts by eliminating the possibility of new taxes. But since the bill was vetoed, this is an issue of no great consequence.

A few more questions:

Do you support the single transferable vote system currently in place for elections in Atlasia, or do you believe that there is some better alternative?

Do you support granting licences or subsidies to the casino gambling industry?

And a more casual one: Why are you a member of the Populares, and what do you think that your party has to offer that others do not?

Again, thanks very much for your time and your thought.
