In 1972, Vermont and Georgia voted for the same candidate, Richard Nixon. Before that, last one was Zachary Taylor in 1848.
They will split again in 1976 and 1980, with Georgia supporting their favorite son Jimmy Carter, but then vote together in three straight elections from 1984 to 1992. Now they are split again in last four cycles.
This has to be the longest split between states ever. Maine is almost better since they voted against Georgia from 1840 to 1972, except in 1912 when Wilson benefited from Roosevelt and Taft splitting the Republican vote.
Do you think Vermont and Georgia will vote for the same candidate again in near future and for whom?
