Only if Mr. Trump dies in office of natural causes.

Being VP these days actually makes it not that likely to be prez because recent officeholders didn't die in office or resigned. And after 8 years, the other party often wins the WH. After 4 or 8 years, VPs may be irrelevant. Biden could be an exception though.

Pretty good point. It's been 56 years since the last President died in office via assassination (and presidential security is much better since), and the whole 74 years since the last President died of natural causes. Furthermore, there's been 45 years since the last presidential vacancy.

And given parties are generally replaced after eight years (HW Bush being the sole exception post-war), the odds of Pence getting elected after Trump's hypothetical second term are low. The Vice Presidency is much less of a stepping-stone nowadays.

The only plausible scenarios are Pence pulling Mondale (Trump loses in 2020, and his VP is the nominee in 2024), or Pence pulling Biden (skipping 2028).

lol no.  he's so uncharismatic even Hillary would beat him in a landslide.  that brand of christian fanaticism doesn't play well anymore either.

His brand of Christian fanaticism was what made him a great running-mate (securing that maybe not that numerous, but crucial bloc for the Republican efforts to succeed), but you're right about this being a huge handicap for a presidential run.
