What's up with all the Republicans voting for the uber-liberal Tsongas?  Brooke may have had some bad behavior, but surely he was more conservative, right?

Indeed, Edward Brooke was such a freaking conservative that he won an endorsement from a noted John Birch Society member and gay-hunter named Barney Frank.

Re: The GOP

I mean, they're close. They're essentially one of those far-right populist parties that win about 10% of the vote in most European countries.
Well this is true. I don't see where the GOP as it is could poll more than 10% in Europe, except maybe Poland.

You truly underestimate other Eastern European contries.

As someone who reads Jay Carney's lies and drivel daily, I find this absurd, ignorant, and bad

Listening to Jay Carney for a while gives you little reason to read Lief's posts.

I wish Jay Carney had the sarcasm and humor of Lief... or even pbrower.

Ouch!

It's hardly just for Sneakers O'Toole. There's a whole Facebook group about him and someone wrote up this analysis: http://theconvictor.livejournal.com/76961.html

By doing what you do, but with a ten year head start.  In fact, you'd have over double the number of posts he has if you'd started when he did and had kept your current pace throughout.

Ugh, what a horrific thought.

Why don't you like me and what is your political philosophy?

ur obvs such a philsopher lol

I have a B.A. in philosophy.

3. Nixon's election was a repudiation of both ideological extremes of the time.  With Humphrey as the candidate of the far-left and Wallace as the candidate of the far-right, Nixon was left as the candidate of the center, and as such, he won.

Context:

he was right on the iraq war, as history has proven.  and i think we have to be careful of our enemies using cuba as a potential base to carry out attacks on the us. this is no different than the cold war, really.

i disagree with bolton on palestinian statehood.  but the israelis need a reliable partner in peace.  thus far palestinians opt for terrorists and terrorism.

and i dont want the un inspecting our weapons either.  and yes we should use our power to influence the un.  i dont see how that is radical?

Just awful!

I am the one who checked Bacon King's work, and spotted his error.  So please, give me all the glory for proving his fallibility.

John Brown = Pinochet:

HP. Just because he was on the right side of history doesn't excuse him being a cold blooded murderer.

Yes it does.

How do you feel about Pinochet? Capitalism seems pretty well entrenched.

Jesus, I hate libertarians.

This was a hard decision for me, but Reagan.

Both fought for freedom principles though. Mandela for social freedom, Reagan for economic freedom.

Pinochet did too.

ROFLMFAO these people can't be serious

Oh god, I see this has gotten out of control.

To be fair, I absolutely think Mandela wins as a person. But as a person of policy, I definitely prefer Reagan. Both of them I sympathize with deeply as they are both dead. I was very much undecided and should probably take my vote back as I could see both sides. Both had drastic negatives as well.

So, if you guys are nice, lets not make too big of a deal of this and forget the outrage. If so, thanks.

I have no problem with you picking Reagan in this match-up. My choice is diffrent, but I respect your stance.

Yet you have to admit the whole "social freedom"/"economic freedom" thing was rather unfortunate.

He could be the next JPII, a beloved figure that transcends religion.

He should get involved in politics too, the rest of the world needs a guy like him.

A tiny part of me died upon reading this post.

Bad timeline is bad:

On the cold day of November 8th 1904 the people of America where giving the three choices of (R) Thedore Roosevelt, (D) Alton Parker, and (S) Benjamin Handford. Millions of Americans waited outside just for the chance to vote the hard working blue-collard Americans were going to defy there boss threat of a Handford victory would cause them to loose there jobs and where going to vote for him. The Rich came to vote for Alton Parker to keep the workers from taking over. Finally, the alternate for the workers was Thedore Roosevelt the war hero who promised a new beging of equality, but not the worker take over like Handford promised. As the day passed and finally came to an end on November 9th people rushed to hear the results. In the end of the day Handford was elected president with 184 electoral votes following him was second place Roosevelt with 154 and last place Parker with 138. There was nothing the supreme court could do because the map obviously showed the public wanted Handford. No back room deals or strings pulled could give Roosevelt or Parker the extra 40 electoral votes to win, it was over a new party has risen. Parker walked away with 12 states all located in the former Confederate States of America and Missouri. Roosevelt's states were everywhere, he won all of the Northeast of the exception of Pennsylvania and New Jersey. The other states he won were Kentucky, Indiana, Wisionisan, Kansas, Montanan, Washington, and Oregon. In total he had 16 states and the remaining 17 went to Handford. Oh the stories the next four years that lay ahead of America are yet to be told.

I really never understood why people post timelines in this thread, unless we're grading them on grammar alone.  They don't have to be realistic.

The words of someone who's never really dabbled in the genre.

Considering the popularity of the Drakaverse, it's fairly clear that timelines don't have to be realistic to be a success.

The Drakaverse is incomparably better written.

I was just asking if Leahy was dead. There's nothing Absurd, Ignorant, or Bad about that.

Do you want to know what is really bad? It's your continious ignorance on all subject you touch.

It's amazing how benconstine is exactly the same moderate hero that he was when he was 14.

WWII provided an interesting contrast in ideologies. You had True Leftism (Stalin), the far right (Hitler), mainstream conservatism (Churchill) and standard progressivism/modern day liberalism (FDR). And it's also quite obvious from that comparison which of those ideologies is the best.

A country stuck between a rock and a hard place; the government is a bunch of corrupt thugs and the protesters range from naive "liberal" students to neo-Nazis. The idea that Ukrainians are a separate nation is silly, though.

The part about Ukrainian nation made me want to bang my head agaist the wall. Sadly, there is a very substantial presence of far right elements involved there and trust me, those are very nasty guys.

Can you imagine that there was a presidential candidate (of a major party) that didn't vote for himself?

My answer: John McCain.
1.) He is very liberal and a decisive opponent of racism.
2.) He didn't want Palin to become president in case of his death.

What do you think?
