People saying that Ron Johnson is a bad fit for Wisconsin are thinking too much in terms of PVI. The state has a very long history of zigzags between relative extremes. It gave America left-wing heroes like Robert LaFollette and Russ Feingold, but also fire-breathing reactionaries like Joe McCarthy and Scott Walker. It may be the most ideological state in the nation.
