Keep in mind that in Maine a lot of Perot's vote came from lumber and paper mill towns. Residents of such places were very inclined to vote Democratic pre-2016 over trade issues.

Jimmy Carter is the only Democratic president since the Depression that won nationally without carrying Chittenden County VT

Since Nebraska became a state in 1867 Grover Cleveland is the only Democratic president that never won Saline County.

The only state where Dukakis didn’t outperform McGovern? Massachusetts.

I’m not sure what’s the worst performance of all time for a major-party’s presidential nominee in their own state, but Mitt Romney’s 23-point loss in the Bay State has got to be up there.

John C Frémont came third in California in 1856. Other than that if looks Romney is the second-worst home state performance since universal male suffrage.
