If their is truly such a thing as an outright impossible switch, it's probably this. I literally can't think of a single case of how this is possible.

I guess it would probably be someone in Maine or Vermont. In Maine, Fremont won 4,000 more votes than Lincoln in 1860, while Breckenridge received 6.31%. In Vermont, Fremont won 6,000 more votes than Lincoln in 1860, with Breckenridge at 4.19%.

Breckenridge won about 40 percent of the vote in the state.

That is likely as well. However, Lincoln greatly out-polled Fremont in Pennsylvania, so it's hard to say.

Perhaps a hesitant anti-Nebraska voter who gets cold feet when the South starts threatening secession?

I think that sounds more like a potential Fremont/Bell voter.
