Why not just ban the use of mobile phones while driving entirely?
Some states do that; 27 states have bans specific to young drivers.
Minnesota doesn't ban all drivers from using cell phones, just minors.
That's even dumber, in my opinion.
The Georgia Law was just passed this session, for the record. In it, no age can text while drive, and no one under 18 can use a cell phone at all. Adults can still talk on theirs.
To give an example of how stupid Perdue is, he considered vetoing the bill, saying he doesn't like banning texting for adults! WTF?!
Haha, he deserves to be run over by some pickup truck driver who is texting.
Did you know, that, until this year, it was legal to drive a truck and not wear your seatbelt in Georgia? Also, even after they changed it, you can still not wear it if you're in a pickup ruck and doing business related to farming. Grrrr.....
Bans on this sort of thing won't be very effective.
They will be very effective at making the roads more dangerous and increasing government revenue.
Increasing government revenue.....alright, no contest there.......but how on Earth does a ban on texting make roads more dangerous?
People will keep texting and talking, they'll just work harder to hide it, often taking their eyes completely off the road. And if they see a cop, expect them to speed and engage in some reckless driving to avoid being in their line of sight. I've seen this happen. NY was I think the first state to enact a ban on cell phone use while driving back in 2001.
The Federal and State DOT both estimate that the law will save 27 lives a year, and prevent over 300 accidents a year.
