It's not actually that rare a name.  In fact I find its etymology rather interesting, and in my case, ironic, considering that I'm an atheist and "Christopher" derives from the Greek word(s) for "Christ Bearer", Χριστόφορος, or Khristóphoros I believe, from the constituent parts of "χριστός" (Khristós) for "anointed one" and "φέρειν" (phérein) for "bearer".
