I don't think anyone actually believes - surely Huntsman included - that a turncoat traitor Obama-ite sellout (or whatever) is going to make it through a primary.

I'm guessing he wants to make a decent impression on the electorate to prepare for a 2016 run. Otherwise he's just deluded.

BTW, wasn't he always going to resign around now? He'd only committed to a relatively short stint IIRC.
