Stefanik is such a joke. She's made fools out of all those people calling her a rising star and future presidential material.

No matter how you personally feel about Liz Cheney, everyone should be appalled at what is happening right now. She's being ousted for simply telling the truth.

It's unfortunate that that is what is taking her out, but as she long as she is being taken out I am happy.

Bye bye!

I shed no tear for her, but getting a Trump lackey in Stefanik who fundamentally opposes democracy is almost certainly not going to be an improvement.

Y'all are standing around applauding Liz Cheney because what she represents (i.e., vacuous overtures against Trump and Trumpism) is the only animating principle you have left.

You realize (of course you do) that you can disagree with someone on most political issues, but still agree with him/her on a very important issue like "The 2020 election was unequivocally NOT stolen and it is an absolute disgrace for Republican officials to knowingly lie and tell the base that it was."

I don't think highly of Cheney generally, but I do respect that she doesn't literally want to overthrow democracy like most of the rest of Republicans in Congress do, so she deserves credit for that. It's sad that we've devolved to a point where we have to celebrate Republicans for clearing that low bar, but it's where we are.

LMAO fight, fight, fight!!

As if the Republican base cares if a politician is "conservative," especially in the eyes of an organization like the Club for Growth. All that matters is undying loyalty to Trump and the Big Lie, and Stefanik is 100% committed to that.

I'm genuinely curious to see what Cheney's next move will be after she's booted from the leadership.  She's clearly got some principles from which she won't back down, and she doesn't seem the type to take things without fighting back.  Could she end up leaving the party to become an independent?  If so, does she try to burn the party down on her way out?

Imagine a world where Cheney is reelected in 2022, a dystopic world where the gerrymandering ban doesn't pass, allowing the Rs to retake Congress, but CA/NY countergerrymander Stefanik and McCarthy out of their seats. Who takes over the party then? Do they just make Trump the speaker?

Lmao he'd hate that job so much.

He'd be terrible at it for sure. I wonder if he'd stand up and interrupt Biden during the State of the Union.

Interesting but sad thread on what Trumpism does to once-reasonable people (as if we don't have plenty of examples of it already just on this forum)

Unrecognizable description of the person representing my former district. This is someone who consistently avoids anything but controlled media, rarely does an unscripted interview, and has always kept herself completely inaccessible to anyone even vaguely hostile. This is someone who has told naked lies and indulged in cheap name-calling against every electoral opponent whom she has faced.

The narrative of a sudden conversion of this formerly decent person to the "Trump cult" is such transparent bullsh**t. Maybe this really is how others in elite circles once perceived her - fundraising was one of her chief talents, so that makes enough sense, she was good at flattering a certain sensibility - but that's just a testament to their blindness.

The main lesson of this story is that those telling it live in a circlejerk and want you to know that Stefanik is no longer a welcome member of the club.

You obviously have better perspective than I do as her constituent, but I definitively viewed her as "one of the good ones" until 2020. It's certainly possible she was always this bad and I got fooled by phony positive coverage - it's not like I was doing my own careful research

I find it hillarious  that Trumpists think someone who voted with Trump 93% of the time is a traitor but someone who voted with Trump 78% of the time is a Trumpist .

That was the past. Stefanik is now 100%, and that's all that matters

Statement from Nancy Pelosi:

Quote
Congresswoman Liz Cheney is a leader of great courage, patriotism and integrity.  Today, House Republicans declared that those values are unwelcome in the Republican party.

I'll add in that she was the daughter of a war criminal and the worst (or one of the worst) VP in American history.

People should judge her for her own actions. Her father's actions shouldn't ever come up.
