Not sure that people who don't believe in climate change will necessarily attribute an ecological disaster to climate change. 

Sure, but most people who "don't believe" in climate change are pretty casual about it. The number of hardcore deniers/conspiracists is low, while most of them just haven't really given it a second thought.
