I will gladly risk this being placed in the exquisitely age thread by constantly stating this early on that Newsome will handedly Survive recall. The French Laundry thing was gross - - even though technically the county it was in was only green as opposed to red or purple regarding mask restrictions- - but that's a real questionable basis on which to recall and otherwise rather successful governor who handled covid fairly effectively, albeit of course hardly perfectly.

The primary Challengers to Newsom are going to be the usual cast of butthurt Republicans who are just mystified why their brand doesn't sell to increasingly diverse, young, educated, and prosperous state. California voters have simply no interest in that.

I just an Elder ad where he said "Do I look like a white supremacist?". Seems worse than "I am not a witch."

It's pretty bad, but I think Christine O'Donnell having to deny that she's a witch is just more ridiculous in my opinion.

Found the ad.

It's insulting, but I don't think it's on the same level as Christine O'Donnell having to deny she's a witch. That was just absurd.

I wonder if do some could improve his position by turning this as much into a race versus he and Larry Elder as much as he is running against the national Republican Party. I mean, Elder is way way out there, and the only way he's going to get elected governor is I waiting a 20-ish percent morality of the leftovers if Newsom gets only 49.99% of the vote in the recall portion. I mean, he is really out there, and the fast overwhelming percentage of Californians do. One milder as their governor.

The CAGOP just turned Newsom into a national star.

More to the point, I think it says volumes about the California GOP, and frankly probably about the national GOP, that when given options as reasonable conservatives like Faulconer, and at least a not crazy conservative like John Cox, they overwhelmingly choose an absolute batsh**t crazy far right extremist.

It's not to say the recall would have passed without a less toxic alternative than Larry elder, but it just speaks volumes as to what complete radicals have taken over the party.. Compare that to democrats who resoundingly chose a relative left of center progressive guy over Bernie Sanders, and people who want a both sides extremism in this country being each party's fault can Choke on a heavy bite of reality

Man, I love California.  Sane voters.  Natural beauty.  Pulls its weight and then some in terms of the economy and paying taxes (unlike Texas and Florida).  Great politics.  Just a great state overall.  They really should have 10 senators given how much they contribute to this country.

This time's ten. Screw Wyoming and the Dakotas

While I would have preferred "YES" on recall, I would have been horrified if Elder had been that replacement.

I've gotta get my politics straightened out.

I find it interesting that Asians are so much more supportive of covid restrictions than Latinos given that Asians tend to have less comorbidities than Latinos, less likely to live in multigenerational housing, etc

Southerners as a group are the most unhealthy Americans in terms of comorbidities.  They're also not really masking up or getting vaccinated.  Almost like people who are irresponsible about masking/vax are also irresponsible with respect to their health in general...

You really seem to be having a breakdown, are you okay?

His post was entirely  Measured and restrained. I'm not sure where you're coming from with your response.

My own 2 cents about  this result.

1st, California desperately needs to Yet tightened its ballot access laws. Liberal ballot access laws are good in theory, but the requirements to get on the ballot here were a laughing stock for a state the size of Delaware or Wyoming, let alone for the largest one in the country. Having 46 candidates on the recall ballot  Degraded this  Is election from a joke to an outright farce. One could eliminate  Is 80% plus of the individuals on that  Ballot and would still include every individual who had any conceivable option in any other universe of being elected governor, right down to Caitlyn Jenner.

I will repeat my earlier post. The fact that republicans had yeah lookin's had a reasonable California friendly alternative in Faulconer,   Is or at least a somewhat seen right wing alternative in Cox, But still overwhelmingly coalesced around some hoarding and is sporting an  Is unreservedly batsh**t crazy  Is far right wing extremist crank Frank speaks volumes of not only why The party is completely toxic Justin California, but Wyatt relies on fundamentally undemocratic measuris mentally undemocratic measures such as senate  Is overall representation of rural state's, the filibuster, err, widespread bald faced Jerry mandering, and voter suppression efforts to maintain any semblance of power in this country.

I'm sorry to tell my fellow progressives, but translating these results to the 22 midterms, even for California congressional seats, is a fool's errand. I'm not necessarily saying democrats will be decimated or that they can't run competitively against some of these 1st terms who won in 18, but but we're really trying to compare apples and oranges here.

Since when did stating obvious facts become unacceptable to Republicans?
