Within a year after the election--if Perry doesn't win---opponents will accept it and act like it was never a big deal to them in the first place. Most tragically, they'll forget any lessions learned (or that at least should've been learned) while blithely forcasting the downfall of civilization over the next battleground like DOMA or adding sexual orientation to the 1964 Civil Rights Act.
