Except that he wasn't. Curious that the myth is so often repeated though.

MLK Sr. was a Republican, IIRC (though he did vote for JFK).

(Of course, being a member of the black urban middle class back in the first part of the 20th century, it wouldn't have been surprising for MLK, Sr. to have been a Republican. Tongue )
