These people, and most especially any public official who backed them or failed to respond to them with all due diligence, need to be punished ruthlessly. Bolsonarism must be thoroughly purged from the Brazilian state.

Florida Man has been admitted to an Orlando hospital due to "abdominal discomfort":

Where is Bolsonaro? In hospital, his wife says

Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro has been taken to hospital with abdominal pain, his wife said.

It comes a day after thousands of his supporters stormed government offices in the Brazilian capital.

It's nice to see that at least Bolsonaro's body is rotting faster than he's rotted Brazil's body politic.

As a side note, it's interesting that the most common word for a violent takeover of state power in English is coup, a French word. In French, you'd normally use the full phrase coup d'état, but if you want to say it in one word you would actually use the German word putsch. Meanwhile, Italians commonly use the Spanish (and Portuguese?) golpe. It's just funny how all these languages use a different foreign word for it.

I don't know if focusing on Bolsonaro is necessarily the best move here. He seems pretty much done politically, and it does seem his involvement here was rather minimal. Certainly nowhere near January 6, at least.

The real focus, IMO, should be sympathies and complicities for the insurrectionists within the Brazilian police, military, and state apparatus. Rocha and Torres already seem highly suspicious, and unless they have a credible defense for their behavior, they should be permanently dismissed and hopefully also charged. And I'm sure it runs much deeper when it comes to the police. Bolsonaro is out of power, but many of his goons are still around. They must be rooted out at all costs.
