wow there have only been two left of center leaders in France since 1965 and one of them is a one term fool who basically got booted for trying to do right-wing things.

Even worse: in the Fourth Repunlic there was only one centre left PM of any relevance (i.e he lasted 16 months in office, which by Third Republic PM's is equivalent to a decade) Guy Mollet, and he is best known for a) the Suez disaster and b) Algeria screw-ups. You have to go back to Leon Blum to get a leader worth a damn.

Mendès France was a massive FF and decidedly left-wing (more so than his party would suggest, at least).

Really, if you're judging by foreign policy then Hollande is miles and miles above the rest purely because of the way he handled Mali.

True that. Foreign policy is the one redeeming feature of Flamby's presidency.
