NSV, the observations (if they can be called that) that you're using as points against making sure those not fortunate enough to be affluent Smiley suburban Smiley Smiley FFs Smiley Smiley Smiley like your gentle self don't die in a heap for lack of easily provided health care could just as easily be used as points against unrestrained capitalism as a system. One man's modus ponens is another's modus tollens.

I know, it's so outrageous to lobby for the system we've had in place for a generation as opposed to dramatically altering it, which is the normal position here.

I'm glad Reaganomics has worked well for you, but you must have a very odd window on the world if you think it's worked for the country as a whole.

In any case, I wasn't calling anything "outrageous". I was just making an observation.

I get that some people may have "sunk" (a lot on this board it seems) in a "sink or swim" economy, but I don't agree with your observation that the "country as a whole" is doing bad.  The fact is that capitalism works, it has made this country the richest country in the world... period...  And it has increased the standard of living for the vast majority of the population.  Even lower middle class people arguably live better than upper middle class people did 20 years ago.  They have better access to technology, etc.

But why ought people to "sink"? You can't just concede that there are people who are leading miserable lives because of our socioeconomic system in the same breath as acting mortified at the suggestion that something should be done about it.

Something can be done about it.  I just happen to not agree with the welfare state you'd probably prefer to be in.  Do I feel bad about the fact that I do not want to radically alter our current system and radically redistribute wealth?  No.  No I do not.

Do you actually have any alternative proposals to help these people without radically altering our current system? Or is what you are saying basically "screw them, I got mine"?

I supported the Republican efforts to repeal Obamacare as laid out, which the majority of your white working class also supported btw - primarily in voting for Donald Trump.

All the polls that have been made on the matter say otherwise. But don't let facts get in the way of your narrative.

I'm okay with that as a temporary solution but the lack of democracy here is *outrageous*.

Well, I am a dictator (if only by virtue of how threads work on this forum), but I strive to be a benevolent one who listens to his subjects. Smiley

A married man should not be having dinner with another woman, unless that other woman is his sister, daughter, mother, or grand mother, you get the picture.

This almost reads as parody:

No matter how many times the haters say this, it will never be true. She got 3 million votes more than Trump, and it would have been a much larger margin, including an electoral college victory, if some of the pwecious snowflakes who were rooting for her to win had bothered to pitch in and help, rather than their "noble" "protest" of leaving it blank or #writeinBernie or whatever.

It's not Hillary's fault she ran up against a buzzsaw who added millions of voters to the rolls, reached out to Democrats like no Republican ever could have, and somehow still hung out to all of the "values voters" (ha!). And despite all of his unique advantages that no other Republican could have brought to the table, the American people were rooting for her victory by a landslide margin. She wasn't a terrible candidate or even a mediocre one - she would have trounced the other Republicans, and even had a clear preference of the electorate against the Republicans' strongest candidate.

This belongs in the Foundation tbh. So bad it's good.

it's just severely inconsistent that you'd support something that would leave that sector's (disproportionately queer, female) workers at even greater risk of exploitation ㄟ(ツ)ㄏ

This isn't the right place to start an argument, but obviously I don't support criminalizing the workers, only the people who profit off from the exploitation.

Just about every American post in the UK General Election thread belongs here.

You don't think the Raving Loony Green Giant Party would be best at governing the U.K. at this point?

Yeah, I don't think regular posters on a board that overwhelmingly backed Owen Smith last year have the right to diss anyone else tbh.

I'm pretty sure Labour wouldn't be looking at being reduced to 100-150 seats if Smith had won.

Great, literally relitigating the primary.

Emails, amount of debates, and superdelegate counts all seem like weak evidence. This will probably get dismissed.

Hillary hacks whine about relitigating the primary when they forced Perez in as DNC chair because he supported Hillary and ShareBlue and the like are still attacking Bernie.
The pissed off Bernie bro in me completely agrees with jfern but the rest of me realizes that that isn't completely true (although he has a few points)

It's mostly true, actually.

I don't know, I think it depends. If I don't want to kiss, I'd prefer I be asked so I can decline. If I do want to kiss, I don't want to negotiate this exchange of spit. I just want to be kissed.

Suffice to say if someone goes to kiss me and I don't want it, I'll just move away and say no thanks and let it be that.

There's only one proper way of dealing with that: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RmPO_nzJ18k

It's especially hilarious when you remember that Scarlet felt the need to jump to the defense of billionaires (of whom there are very few and whose behavior tends to be publicly visible... and who have, you know, power) when people were saying mean things about them. HOW LEFT-WING!

What happened to political moderates? They make up roughly half of the Democratic Party.

...you just dug up a 4-year-old post saying something that a good number of people still agree with? Uh, OK. Huh

I'm not against the suggestions here, but is it worth changing it when the thread has only about 10 pages left? At the rate it's going, we'll have a new one soon.

Fair enough. Kinda distressing how fast this went by.

Can't recall if the Oldies/bobloblaw one went out this quickly.

How bout naming it for Tony for unironically thinking "T***p" is actually clever?

Antonio is an infinitely better poster than you.

I don't disagree, but "T***p" is f--king stupid. It serves no purpose, isn't that clever of a "nickname" (if you can even call it that), and plays right into the hands of the "liberals are entitled snowflakes who can't handle the real world" narrative.

Well, I am an entitled snowflake who can't handle the real world, but I'm not a liberal.

MJ's posturing as an over-the-top liberal elitist douchebag is especially hilarious when you remember he was an arch-conservative douchebag less than a year ago. Now that's an example of the horseshoe theory!
