Not all forms of conservatism are stupid, far from it. But the current form of "grassroots" conservatism that has taken hold in modern America is unquestionably rooted in the exploitation (and, even more worryingly, the legitimization) of ignorance.

There's nothing wrong with emotion in politics of course, and technocrats are unwise to forget that.

There are positive emotions (courage, selflessness, affection, a sense of justice, etc.) and negative emotions (fear, anger, pride, etc). The latter shouldn't be encouraged in everyday life, let alone in the political sphere.
