It has to be 1968. MLK and RFK assassinations, incumbent President being challenged and dropping out, convention rioting, racist major third-party candidate, political giants competing for both the Democratic and Republican nominations, candidates who would have satisfied our resident True Leftists, as well as our Moderate Heroes, our liberals and our conservatives. Oh, and there was a war going on as well. And the election turned out to be close.

Honorable mentions to 1912, 1992, 1988, 2000 (for the election night itself and the aftermath), 1948, 1860, 1972, 1896 and 1960.
