This is just unconscionable. Weren't the GOP supposed to be the anti-research party. So were are going to kill human life to do experiments for treatments that aren't going to be needed. There is an opening here. Though it is a side issue it could provide enormous benefits among an important voting bloc. Like College Loans helped the Dems in 2006 among young voters this could be a similar wedge issue that's not as partisan and more effective then abortion or gay marriage that could help us among the elderly and all sane young people who realise they too will get old eventually and will be f**ked by this.
US should lead the world in technology in all subject ares and specialties cause it improves quality of life and is an enormous job creator. Imagine if instead of just passing cafe standards we had attached a doubling of the money for R&D on Energy and transportation technology. What if we had done the same on Manufacturing and Industrial technology. Nothing gives a comparative advantage like a Technological edge. Right now we spend Billions in R&D on Medical research, Military technology, and Aerospace. Consequently we lead the world in technology in all three. So we should not discourage innovation and technology in an area we currently dominate. Of course new discoveries are expensive but further technology reduces prices by creating other treatments for the same illness. Once again the Dems preferred a rigid nation of automatons that follow orders from the Kremlin err.. White House with strict obedience and all dissension is immediately and swiftly punished.
