Something is going to have to go very wrong for Obama for  Mitt Romney to have any chance to win the Presidential election of 2012. Michigan went to Obama by a blowout margin. Even the favorite son effect would be far from strong enough to flip Michigan.

Michigan, Minnesota, Iowa, and Wisconsin are now fool's gold for the GOP: they don't look very partisan until election time, and then they show what they are: traps for GOP hopefuls. So it has been since 1992, and those states have combined for only one GOP win for the Presidential nominee after 1988.
