Joe Biden uses statistics that sound reasonable. Trump uses code words.

Trump tries to link Joe Biden to the "radical left" just as Trump seems to be losing moderate conservatives. Earth to Trump: there are far more moderate conservatives than there are radical leftists. If I am Joe Biden I would take 500,000 votes from moderate conservatives than 100,000 votes from radical leftists. I prefer having voters for me who might be unreliable as voters in the next election than supporters who are gross embarrassments from Inauguration Day.

Trump ended up arguing with Chris Wallace. Saturday Night Live of course had an unflattering spoof of a debate that came to resemble an episode of the Jerry Springer Show. (so was the "debate").

All that I can figure out of Trump's performance was an effort to make Joe Biden lose his composure.
