But as one might expect, Republicans are mostly willing to give Trump a pass.

Mostly. Democrats will not give the President a pass. Some Republicans may want an investigation solely to get the mess over with in the expectation that the President will be  cleared of any scent of wrong-doing.  But there are limits to what Republicans will tolerate. There will be House and Senate seats up for election in 2018 and 2020. It is better to be on the right side of history and the wrong side of the President if such is the choice.
