The BLM movement does have serious issues that need to be addressed and I sympathize with them. But this way is not the best way to do it, it just turns more people off from them than it helps.
It's hard to believe, but you have said something that I can agree with 100%.
Black Lives Matter really needs to discuss the disparate killings of young black men by police forces. Is police training so designed that cops feel safer killing black thugs than killing white thugs? Are there police forces in need of major reform? Are there bad cops who need to be fired?
Also -- responsible black adults need to teach young blacks that it is very bad practice to confront cops. The message needs be clear, maybe taught in elementary school:
DON'T PUT YOURSELF AT RISK -- RESPECT THE COP AND HIS FIREARM!
NEVER RESIST A LAWFUL ARREST, even if the arrest seems a mistake. The legal process can help you if you are wrongly arrested. But if you scare the cops into killing you, then the only professional help that you will get will be from a funeral director.
....
I'd like to see cops do more community-based policing. Dallas did that in some immigrant communities that had problems, and the cops started developing a rapport with the law-abiding people. People started to talk, and the police were able to intervene earlier with troubled youth and domestic violence. "Social workers with a badge"? That could be more effective than waiting for crises to which to respond.
