Barack Obama chose Joe Biden largely because Biden had no potential for financial skeletons appearing. Joe Biden was the poorest member of the US Senate, someone who lived on his Senatorial salary without getting rich off conflicts of interest.

Such may be a good criterion for the Democratic nominee for Vice President. For the Republican? Expect the dirtiest, maybe someone who got fantastically rich on some stock deal related to legislation.
