Good for them. Those crippled and blind fellows are prominent members of the 47% crowd. They should finally stand up and take personal responsibility for their lives. Not being able to see and walk are not excuses for these moochers.

Inks still has an idealistic view of his party. That's why he has said ludicrous things in the past, like his assertions that Republicans aren't climate change deniers, that they aren't anti-intellectuals or that the repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" would pass with lots of Republican votes.

Inks, do you seriously claim Republicans are working and debating in good faith? Because virtually everything that has happened since Obama took office has proved the opposite.

The Republicans that defend every absurdity the GOP comes up with ARE ridiculous. And even if you criticize individual actions, it doesn't have any consequence as you'll still vote for the nutters.

The American "parties" are not comparable in their idiocy and trying to relativize everything "call out both sides...both sides do it", etc. is just a cheap...not to mention moderate hero...way of trying to justify support for people you know are ridiculous.

Is some of it done to be obstructionists to Obama's policies? Absolutely.  But for the most part, I still think people on both sides do their jobs in an attempt to help the country.

I'd love for you to prove to me that those opposing this bill are acting in bad faith...

How am I supposed to "prove" it?

Arlen Specter said that Republicans decided after the 2008 election that their strategy would be to oppose and obstruct everything Obama proposed. I guess that's the proof Inks wants to accept what has been obvious to all of us.

GOP remains absurd and hateful. What else is new?

So glad you've finally outed yourself/ended the Moderate Hero routine.

Once again, if you dare to oppose this, you obviously hate the disabled. Even if you have a disabled child, you hate them. There are no other reasons for someone to oppose this. Roll Eyes

There are other reasons. But since you aren't exactly a fan of Dr. Ron Paul and his conspiracy theories, you ain't going to like them.

Romney clearly stated that the people who live on welfare (ergo those on disability pensions too) are moochers and Republicans shouldn't care about them.

So please Franzl, stop besmirching the reputation of good and honest people like Jim DeMint and Mitch McConnell. They don't hate disabled people, it's just a matter of fiscal responsibility and protecting the interests of makers from the unwashed masses of takers.

If the Republicans who voted against the treaty aren't a bunch of cowards then words have lost their meaning.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/post-partisan/wp/2012/12/06/senate-republicans-profiles-in-moral-cowardice/

To begin with, a shocking number of senators changed positions on the treaty at the last minute, without telling disabled groups (including many disabled veterans’ groups) of their reversal.

Foreign Policy reported that the United States International Council on Disabilities and many other groups “had been assured by numerous GOP senators that they would vote in favor of ratification” before they in fact voted “no.” Josh Rogin writes:

Several GOP senators actually RSVPd for a reception held at the Capitol Tuesday morning to honor Dole, a disabled veteran himself, for his decades of work on behalf of the disabled community. [Kansas Sen. Pat] Roberts, along with Sens. Mike Enzi (R-WY), Johnny Isakson (R-GA), Richard Shelby (R-AL), and Chuck Grassley (R-IA) all planned to attend the ceremony honoring Dole, but didn’t show up and then voted “no” on the treaty.

Sen. Dan Coats (R-IN) actually did show up to the Dole event, but then voted against the treaty anyway.

In fact, Roberts and his Kansas colleague Jerry Moran voted “no” after personally promising Dole they would support the treaty.

Before the vote was to be taken, Dole rolled in a wheelchair onto the Senate floor, where, as Roll Call’s Meredith Shiner writes:

One by one, Senators of both parties approached [Dole], with former colleagues gently resting their hands on his shoulder or reaching out to his left hand. … Then, one by one, after Dole was wheeled off the floor, most Republicans voted against the measure. Many members did not register their “nay” votes verbally, instead whispering their opposition directly to the clerk or gesturing their hands from their chairs.

These senators shook Dole’s good hand, looked him in the eye and, once he left the floor, turned their backs on him, on his fellow disabled veterans and on disabled people throughout the world. They did not stand tall and proud against the treaty. No, these senators “whispered their opposition” or “gestured from their chairs.” (Remember that senators, no strangers to C-Span, know that the network’s microphones can pick up their votes if they wish to be heard.)

These were not the actions of men and women who were proud of their vote. These senators knew, privately, that their vote was wrong. And yet, pathetically, they did not have the courage or the decency to say so. It was nothing less than moral cowardice, a failure that should shame them for the rest of their lives.

Well Bob Dole is probably a Communist anyway using modern Tea Party definitions.....so I doubt his opinion is all that relevant.

Barry Goldwater told him during his 1996 campaign "We're the new liberals of the Republican party. Can you imagine that?".
I wonder what he'd say today for nuts like Santorum and Lee.

And I'm supposed to believe the Goldwater that is adored these days would have agreed with Dole on this treaty? Ok.

Well he certainly wouldn't have opposed it for the ridiculous reasons that those who voted against it gave.  He might have opposed it for the reason I do, that the only real thing it does is set up another useless UN bureaucracy we'd be expected to pay for.

Which I'm sure is another reason why Santorum, Lee, etc. oppose it as well.

Then why didn't they make such a sensible reason to oppose the treaty their centerpiece instead of the tinfoil/black helicopter nonsense they spouted?

Because Santorum's reasoning was more than just some conspiracy theory you'd hear on Alex Jones.

Indeed. It was a conspiracy theory that you'd hear on James Dobson and Pat Robertson's shows.
