As long as their are exemptions for rape, incest and health of the mother, I am ok with this.

Roe v Wade has divided our country for half a century. There is no end on sight. For 40-45% of Americans, no restrictions on abortion is an abomination. That bridge simply can not be built. In states where they are a majority, they should be able to ban it.

We already live in two Americas. People in my state stopped wearing masks a year before some other states. We have to get used to that and focus on things that unite us like passing paid leave or free college.

Here are my thoughts

2/3 of Americans do not want a total abortion ban. Most likely higher than this.

40-45% Americans think abortion is murder. Although I think most would be fine with exceptions for rape, incest and health of the mother.

50-55% probably would keep the status quo

So why is the pro-life movement so close to winning?

Sure, the current American system of government favors rural conservative areas. Like the senate and electoral college. Older more conservative Americans are more likely to vote. Republicans have also gotten lucky that they controlled the senate the last two times a justice has died.

But the pro-life movement is much more unified and passionate about their argument. They think abortion is murder. You can reconcile this.

What about the 55% of Americans who would keep the status quo? They are not united. Look at our current President. He is pro-choice but has said numerous times he does not like abortion, just doesn't want to tell women what to do. Most of his career, he would not have been protesting in the streets. How many "pro-choice" folks out there don't even like the concept of abortion but care more about privacy or women's right to their bodies?

Does Graham’s bill allow abortions before 15 weeks? Or does it merely ban it after 15 weeks and allows states to decide before 15 weeks?

Only 5% of abortions occur after 15 weeks. Honestly 15 weeks seems acceptable compromise to me

We're not compromising.
Why though?

Partial birth abortions were banned with bipartisan support. Wasn’t that a compromise? Third trimester abortions are illegal in like 48 states. Isn’t that a compromise?

Most women who give birth after 15 weeks are emergencies which graham bill may or may not protect.

Indiana’s seven abortion clinics is opening back up with the recent court decision

How does that work? One would think nurses and secretaries would have got new jobs by now. They closed august 5th
