Best VP for Gretchen Whitmer?

Raphael Warnock or Ruben Gallego if he's elected Senator.  Jon Ossoff is a good suggestion.  It should be someone from the Sunbelt.  Ideally a POC.

Gallego's an interesting name drop, and I have to say, I agree. Instead of focusing on just AA's when we talk about Dems driving up turnout, I think a Hispanic running mate could do wonders in reaching out to the Hispanic community, reversing the R trend, etc. Someone with Gallego's background may help lock up the Hispanic vote and increase turnout with Hispanic Democrats - after all, if the Democrats win, it'll be another historical first, this time for Hispanic-Americans.

Gallego would help out in AZ and NV, both of which are pivotal swing states (and the trends in both are not nearly as one-sided as those in GA, which is naturally trending further and further left). He might also help put TX in play, although realistically I think it's fool's gold for the Democrats this year.

Other than geographic balance, ideological balance is also important. If the presidential candidate is a moderate/mainstream Democrat (and isn't a white Midwesterner like Whitmer), then Tammy Baldwin could also make an excellent running mate.

Ruben Gallego also makes sense. A white woman from the Midwest would be balanced by a man of color from a different region.

Wes Moore would cause few headaches, although he wouldn't help with governing or swing any useful region.

Most Democratic running mates have been Senators, and it makes sense. The party prefers a strong federal government, Senators are statewide officeholders so they seem qualified, and Senators are supposed to be familiar with national issues so it should avoid major gaffes.

Hakeem Jeffries would provide balance and help govern, but I'm not sure what swing voters he'd appeal to.

Fetterman would double-up strength in rust-belt swing states. The main knock is that it would be a ticket with two white people.

Yeah, Fetterman could be a good VP choice under a different presidential candidate. Although I would still be quite skeptical, because while the running mate's health isn't nearly as scrutinized as the top of the ticket's, his health might still become an issue. It probably wouldn't be an effective attack from the GOP, but even so, with his stroke and whatnot I'm not sure how effectively or vigorously he would be able to campaign.

Colin Allred

Ex-congressman doesn't look that great on a resume for VP candidate. He's viable as a running mate if and only if he wins the Senate race this year; if not, he will definitely not be able to attain the requisite stature by 2028. And I think Cruz will definitely hold on to his seat, tbh. I expect Trump to hold the state at the presidential level and for Cruz to not do more than maybe a couple of points worse than him.
