That's exactly right. I expect Obama will have relatively high poll numbers throughout his first term, regardless of conditions. As a corollary to this, as long as there's even a slight modicum of improvement in the economy, he'll probably cruise to re-election.

I think it's fair to say it'll drop as the excitement wears off. All the same, I'd be surprised to see him hit below 55% in the next year and a half.
