I don't think that nearly as many of them actually oppose it as say they oppose it. Most of the historically recent internal policing seems to me to be for the benefit of the nation at large, as well as fulfilling Utah's statehood requirements. I can easily see a situation where, if central authority breaks down, the old ways begin to re-assert themselves gradually.
