She probably wants someone from Ohio that wouldn't get replaced by a Republican, but he's not getting picked.

Why do you place Tim Ryan so much higher than Kaine?

It...really depends. I think Warren is still favored. I thought the Orlando shooting would lower her chances but Trump really screwed that one up. A Clinton/Warren ticket can touch a lot of bases. Clinton for foreign policy and Warren for economic/populist issues (though I don't like using the term populism here because that's not the type of campaign Clinton is running). The only thing holding Warren back is her gender, I think. If Warren were male, this wouldn't even be a conversation.

HFA uploaded Warren's Brooklyn HQ speech on Twitter, and it sounds a lot like a running mate stump speech.

Clinton is holding a rally with Warren in Cincinatti. I think she may be gauging public interest for Warren as a running mate in a swing state.

That's an interesting take. I was thinking all this surrogacy and all her speaking out against Trump is her trying to show that she can do the job, that she's willing. I never thought that it could potentially backfire because she's doing so well at it outside of the role as VP that she can continue to do it without being the running mate. But I do think that not picking Warren at this point, after everything she's done and how well she takes down Trump would bring some people down.

Well, I think Warren would work well as Clinton's running mate. She's not Sanders. She's a loyal Democrat and she tows the party line.  She stays on message. I wouldn't worry about her going "rogue" or whatever.

I gotta say, the day after Kaine's interview where he says he's so boring, Warren brought a lot of energy at her rally with Clinton, and the two look electric on stage. Hopefully her team notices.

Here's Warren's appearance on The View today:

Basically full of running mate talking points.

Mods pls drone jfern

Seems like this is legal in VA but the optics are really bad, and if you're explaining, you're losing. Maybe this is why he was not chosen in 2008. I think Warren's chances increased.

I suspect Christie is a fallback in case he can't get his preferred choice.  That being said, according to GAME CHANGE: DOUBLE DOWN, Romney's vet of Christie unearthed some skeletons. His history as a wall St lobbyest, including working for Bernie Maddoff was a big concern.  And that was all before Bridgegate.

Doubt Trump cares about that, even with the RNC probably pushing him against it behind the scenes.

Kaine took a hit on the betting markets but his yes shares are still selling at the highest price. Might be a good time to buy Warren.

I don't believe Gabriel Debenedetti's journalism here. He's the one who rushed to write a "Does Clinton even need Warren?" piece after their joint rally in Cincy and I bet his inside sources are just the Senate cafeteria ladies.

Very interesting that on the day Clinton sends an email teasing her choice, titled "~the big announcement~" (which sounds to me like it's been made), Kaine says he doesn't expect to be VP.

Sounds like a decision may have been made, and they're waiting for the best time to announce. Clinton did spend all day on Saturday at her DC home with members of her vetting team. With Clinton campaigning with Kaine on Thursday, they may have let him know ahead of time.

For sure. The media will have revealed the pick hours before the text message is sent.

I edited your quote so I wouldn't forget to edit it when you edit your post, but in the sentence "add your name and number below", your name is listed. Tongue

Damn it Jess, we're not even on a first name basis.

How would Newt know it was coming tomorrow or Thursday if he wasn't the pick? Hmmmmmmmmm

Yeah. If any of those two events were isolated, it could've been nothing, but together I think they really point to Newt.

Maybe it was Pence who was the "break glass for Warren" choice. Or maybe Clinton preferred the energy and enthusiasm at her Warren rally compared to her Kaine rally yesterday. Or maybe not.

I'd be down with Hickenlooper if it's not Warren. I wonder if some stoner Johnson voters would jump on board due to the ticket's proximity to Colorado. Though weed might be something the Clintom camp might not want to touch (though they have the perfect "will of the people" excuse).

If Hillary had any doubts about Kaine being the right pick, the choice of Pence should wipe them away. He is moderate, a serious option to replace her, if need be, from a purple state and, unlike Trump and Pence, she gets along well with him. And, with Pence, he will actually look charismatic.

There are many possible VP candidates for Hillary, but there will be only one successful Kaine-didate. Smiley

I think that TRUMP and Pence get along on a personal basis. Pence may have different views (and I don't agree with him), but looks like he's a calm and less offensive guy. But I agree, Kaine would be a good pick for Hilldog and is a actually a lot more qualified than she is.

Trump and Pence get along so well that Trump was whining to his advisers if he could get out of the pick after "choosing" Pence, and then left the stage the moment after introducing Pence at his announcement. They're best bros. And no, Kaine is not more qualified to be President than Clinton.

Seeing Trump and Warren's recent Twitter back and forth, I think Warren is the best pick. In the most recent CNN poll, young voters are choosing Johnson and and Stein at high levels, much more than olds, so having her on the ticket will create a lot of enthusiasm and support for the ticket among youngs. But Trump constantly calling her Pocahontas and a fraud is the best opening for her to bring up his Trump University and real estate frauds, as she did on Twitter, and it only exposes him more. I think the small drop off among center/center-right Hillary voters is worth it because I think most of them can be won back in due time.

Also I feel like picking Warren would allow Team Clinton to positively own a news cycle, something that has been really hard to do.

Yes, their last one was the week of June 7. Tongue Trump being really aggressive and nasty towards two poor grandmas who just want to give people more healthcare and increase their wages would be bad (but funny) optics.
