Oh and if this takes longer then 72 hours, PS better get into the witness protection program. Tongue

I thought that's what being a former president is all about. No one remembers who you are and you never take a public position ever again.

What kind of effect will this have on the deficit??

Take the final price tag and add it to the deficit. That is the effect.

So... what the hell are y'all doing in here? And no Yank, this question is not directed at you. I wouldn't mind it if a different senator answered this question for a change.

I want our stimulus to involve building lots of mass transit. A subway for every city with >500,000 people!

So write an amendment so that this can actually receive debate and the bill can move forward. You are clearly a prolific writer of legislation, so we know you are capable.

How about this this.

We got two days, two days and if nothing more substantial is done we just amend section 2 to throw 100 billion at the SoIA and say Merry Christmas please don't steal it all. Tongue

Ah, so if the senators don't act, we strip them of their earmarks, leave it all up to the Feds. Wonder where you came up with that idea. Tongue

UNEMPLOYMENT CONTINUES TO RISE; REACHES 9%

The Atlasian GM's Office announces that national unemployment has reached 9.0% as of December, up 0.2% from last month. Likewise, the Regional unemployment numbers for December have had to be similarly readjusted to account for heavy job losses during the latter part of the month. The post holiday shedding of jobs has far exceeded seasonal adjustments, indicating businesses may be planning retrenchment rather than expansion during the foreseeable future.

I propose the following amendment to section 2:

g.  Flood mitigation for spring 2011 in the Midwest.
       1.  $50 million shall be made available to regional and local officials upon application    for direct flood mitigation in affected communities.  These monies shall be used only for temporary flood mitigation and community support programs to provide relief to citizens affected by flooding.  Any funds not used for flood mitigation as of December 31st, 2011, shall be returned to the public treasury.
       2.  $10 million shall be made available to local communities along flood prone rivers to purchase homes within the designated 50 year flood event zone in order to convert said land into parks or natural areas that will be allowed to flood, thereby alleviating pressure on other dikes and flood walls.
       3.  Whereby the Fargo/Moorhead region is a vital center of commerce, agricultural, and energy trade for a large area of the Midwest, and whereby dangerous historic flooding has increased drastically in recent decades due to climatic changes, the duration or extent of which cannot be accurately forecasted, $100 million shall be appropriated to the Army Corps of Engineers to design, plan, and build a permanent levy within the city of Fargo, ND to withstand a flood crest on the Red River of the North of no less than 50 feet.  If the Midwest regional government appropriates additional funds for this measure, the monies hereby allocated may be used in the design, plan, and construction of a permanent flood diversion canal around the Fargo/Moorhead region without further approval by Senate of Atlasia or any other government authority.

I know I've been giving the Senate a hard time, but hearts to Snowguy on working with his region to write a detailed amendment like this.
