why do people speak of plutocracy as if it is a bad thing?

i, of course, think a plutocracy is the way to go.

people, you need to drop the pretense that you 'care' about your fellow man.  most of you dont.  but of course it isnt politically correct to openly admit that.

im selfish.  i care about myself and my family.  if joe blow down the street is struggling to get by, it doesnt concern me.

we need a free market system with the achievers at the top.

Ayn Rand would be so proud *sniff*

Not that I disagree with you or anything... Tongue I do expect Opebo might make a choice comment or two.

opebo is clearly a hypocrite.

if he really believes the redistribution garbage he professes, he would redistribute his own wealth instead of chasing (cheap) whores across the globe.

helping the poor is nice in theory, for guys like opebo, but when it comes time to practice what they preach, they leave it up to 'others'.

Your working class hubris is pathetic, Mitty.  'Caring about other people' has absolutely nothing to do with the issue - it is about recognizing your own place in the heirarchy and your own interests.  The reason you should be against plutocracy is because you are not rich, and therefore it is against your interests.  Laissez-faire capitalism is only in the interests of the top few percent of the population (by the way, 'achievement' has nothing to do with it).

right.  im 'a poor'.

please redistribute your money to me, opebo.  damn you f'ers in the 'owning class'

Actually, I recall something like 40% of people regularly give to charity.  I do not remember where I got those statistics, but it is a good amount.  I give about 30% of the money I have to charity.

More than that.  After some research, I came across this survey, the results of which run completely contrary to what WalterMitty is asserting.

Some highlights:

- In 2004, 83% of adults donated money to one or more non-profit organizations.
- The average amount of money donated per person was $1,232 (or about 3% of one's annual income).

how was that figure obtained?  was it a poll?

people lie.  especially when they want to come across as sensitive and caring.

i bet if you took a poll asking people how often they bathe and brush their teeth, 95%+ would most likely say 'daily'.  would you believe that figure too?

Thank you. You just clearly expressed the number one difference between Democrats and Republicans.

Democrats care about their fellow man and want to make the country a better place, while Republicans only care about themselves and don't give a sh*t about anyone or anything else.

That's what it all boils down to between the two major parties in the U.S.
It's uterly immoral and inhuman as well.  I don't think I want to waste the effort debating with someone who has this kind of mentality.

wait a second....

im getting a lecture in humanity from someone with a confederate flag in their sig?
