I think if the economy's still bad in 2012, a candidate Newt would actually help Obama make his case for another four years. The Dem spin will be to point out the 'prosperity' of the 90's, and how Newt hated Clinton, which means he hates prosperity.
And I can imagine BONBC having a field day with the infidelity thing, this soundbyte in particular - "There are times that I have fallen short of my own standards. There's certainly times when I've fallen short of God's standards."
Plus, they'll say he's part of the old Washington establishment.
So he'll be painted as a prosperity hating hypocrite dinosaur. And enough people will believe it to give Obama an easy victory.
