A quick historical note...

Every Democrat who has announced their VP choice before the convention [every pick after the choice of Mondale in '76] has done so at least four days before the convention.

Today is four days before the convention.

If he's announcing today, I can't imagine him not announcing it in the next hour, before the evening news starts.  Although...are the evening news shows live on the East Coast, or not?  If they're recorded, then it's too late anyway...

You know who else lives in Delaware?

Tom Carper.  Tongue

(That's gotta be one of the least-mentioned Senators, at this point...)

Does Obama even have to pick a running-mate?  He could just leave the choice up to the delegates in 1972-fashion, or let the electors handle it, after all Smiley.

(Which would guarantee that either Hillary or Feinstein ends up as our next VP if he wins...)

If the delay is due to him having to try to convince somebody to join him on the ticket (quite unlikely), I can only think of two people who could fit that description...Mark Warner and Hillary Clinton [and Al Gore I suppose, but let's not be silly].

In other news, it's now after 6:30, so this is when I stop paying attention.

It's not coming tonight, guys.

I think he can wait until 8 pm EST, possibly later.

Ambinder notes that at this moment, Obama is going to dinner and then is planning on doing speech prep at home.

So he's not on the airplane?  Or is he eating dinner on the airplane?

We'd know if he were on the airplane.  The idea is that the plane is picking up Biden, sans Obama, I suppose.

At this point, it better not be one of Biden/Bayh/Kaine, or it'll be more than a bit anticlimactic.

Secret Service is being openly dispatched to Biden's home and is already secretly protecting the real running mate, who is already in Illinois.

The Secret Service are a serious government agency.  Unless they had reason to believe there was an imminent threat on Biden, they wouldn't go to protect him on a lark from Obama.
