So, for the moment it is

Clinton 12
Johnson 4
None 2
Trump 0

Broken down by 2012 endorsement:

Clinton 12 (Obama 6, Romney 5, None 1)
Johnson 4 (Obama 1, Romney 2, Unknown 1)
None 2 (Romney 1, None 1)
Trump 0

Strictly speaking, Trump does have ONE endorsement.  The Santa Barbara News Press (CA) endorsed him back in June.  Not sure if they will stick with it now though.

Citation please?  If it was an endorsement, I'll add it to the list.

Here you go - you can see the endorsement headline, but to read it you have to register:

http://www.newspress.com/Top/Article/article.jsp?Section=EDITORIALS&ID=567560425525346324

Also note that the News Press is somewhat "controversial":

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Santa_Barbara_News-Press_controversy

But, it is an endorsement.

Thanks, I'll add it to the list.  I'm not going to make judgement calls on the quality of newspapers; if it's an endorsement, I'll count it.

Interesting, though...in trying to find out who they endorsed in 2012, I didn't find a Presidential endorsement.  But their Senate endorsement was the one-and-only Orly Taitz. (http://www.newspress.com/Top/Article/article.jsp?Section=OPINIONS-LETTERS&ID=566435796928823358&Archive=true)

This brings the running total to:

Clinton 11 (Obama 5, Romney 5, None 1)
Johnson 4 (Obama 1, Romney 2, Unknown 1)
None 2 (Romney 1, None 1)
Trump 1 (Unknown 1)

I guess one could make the case that it makes sense to have a circulation cutoff. This paper is nowhere near the top 100 in the country for example.

True, but I think we could miss some trends that way (as a hypothetical example, a bunch of small papers decide to endorse Trump, but no big papers do).  If it becomes unwieldy then I might rethink this.

Detroit News, a major Michigan daily, comes out with an endorsement for Johnson, rebuking both Trump and Clinton:

http://www.detroitnews.com/story/opinion/editorials/2016/09/28/endorse-johnson-president/91254412/

I believe that in 2012 they endorsed Romney.

Thanks.  I also updated the Caledonian-Record's 2012 endorsement from Unknown to None based on Wikipedia (better than nothing).  So the current totals are:

Clinton 11 (Obama 5, Romney 5, None 1)
Johnson 5 (Obama 1, Romney 3, None 1)
None 2 (Romney 1, None 1)
Trump 1 (Unknown 1)

Baltimore Sun endorses Clinton (no big surprise there - they endorsed Democrats four times in a row, but she is building momentum):

http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/opinion/editorial/bs-ed-hillary-clinton-endorsement-20160929-story.html

The really funny part is them using quotes from usually conservative papers (Cincinnati Enquirer) to justify their endorsement.

Here's the current total, although since endorsements are starting to come faster as we approach Election Day, after this I'll refrain from posting after each one to try and minimize clutter in the thread.  But I'll update it at least once on each day on which there are any endorsements.

Clinton 12 (Obama 6, Romney 5, None 1)
Johnson 5 (Obama 1, Romney 3, None 1)
None 2 (Romney 1, None 1)
Trump 1 (Unknown 1)

A couple of small newspapers endorsing Clinton that endorsed Obama in 2012:

Athens (Ohio) News: http://www.athensnews.com/opinion/endorsements/clinton-is-the-far-superior-option-she-deserves-your-vote/article_ae734150-8593-11e6-82fd-6f922b5a33fe.html

Falls Church (VA) News-Press: https://fcnp.com/2016/09/29/editorial-endorse-clinton-kaine/

New totals:

Clinton 14 (Obama 8, Romney 5, None 1)
Johnson 5 (Obama 1, Romney 3, None 1)

This is a biggie

USA Today: Don't vote for Trump.

They've never endorsed or unrecommended a candidate in their history, and broke their no endorsement policy. In the anti-endorsement, the USA Today editorial board says that Trump is "unfit for the presidency."

http://www.usatoday.com/story/opinion/2016/09/29/dont-vote-for-donald-trump-editorial-board-editorials-debates/91295020/

You beat me to it - I was just about to post it!

I agree - this could have serious consequences. The paper has massive circulation and not having done this before will carry weight.

OK, I'll add a new category to the spreadsheet.  And I'll track the non-daily papers separately.  New totals:

Daily papers --
Clinton 12 (Obama 6, Romney 5, None 1)
Johnson 5 (Obama 1, Romney 3, None 1)
None 2 (Romney 1, None 1)
Trump 1 (Unknown 1)
Anyone but Trump 1 (None 1)

Non-daily papers --
Clinton 2 (Obama 2)

This endorsement was for the primary. It should not be counted as an endorsement until they offer a general election endorsement.

Thank you for that clarification.  I'll remove it from the list.

Added Chicago Tribune and Daily Texan, but not WSJ since it's not a full editorial board endorsement.  Removed Santa Barbara News Press since it was a primary endorsement.  Updated totals:

Donald Trump is not the candidate for people capable of putting words together coherently.
There certainly are good journalists and news blogs out there supporting Trump.

Now of the editors of all of those legacy news blogs that still produce a version of their blog in that antiquated paper format (so called 'newspapers') none are supporting Trump. This is unsurprising. These legacy blogs are mostly owned by a few big corporations and are all financially dependent on big corporate advertisers. So if the big corporates are all backing one candidate and opposing another then their employees will follow suit in their publications.

Or, you know, it's possible that their editorial boards just think Trump isn't qualified.  Some people say this is the case.

This is from Wikipedia, so accuracy is questionable.

2004: Kerry 208, Bush 190.
2008: Obama 495, McCain 215 (includes daily and non-daily papers, as well as magazines)
2012: Obama 157, Romney 112, Johnson 2, Stein 2, nobody 18.

Probably the closest Trump came to a newspaper endorsement.  The Bakersfield Californian says they won't endorse anyone (but urge readers to make up their own minds and vote):

Looks like they did the same thing in 2012 ("You're on your own.")

Hardly:

"Donald Trump, the Republican nominee, is erratic, reckless, coarse and utterly lacking in statesmanship. He has a less-than-solid grasp of policy issues and shows little interest in changing that. His candidacy has alarmed conservative U.S. leaders and America’s global allies alike."

They slam Clinton (not quite as bad, IMO), but this is hardly a "lean Trump" semi-endorsement.

Agree.  I counted this as "no endorsement" in my spreadsheet.

The Patriot News (Harrisburg, PA) for Clinton:

Not sure if this counts as a daily. They have a daily online edition but only publish three times weekly.

I'll count it as a non-daily.

The Deseret News of Salt Lake City, which has a no-endorsement policy, calls for Trump to drop out of the race: http://www.deseretnews.com/article/865664336/In-our-opinion-Donald-Trump-should-resign-his-candidacy.html.  I'm going to count this as a "Not Trump" endorsement, similar to USA Today's.

Also, the Fresno Bee endorses Clinton: http://www.fresnobee.com/opinion/editorials/article106756647.html.  They endorsed Obama in 2012.
