He's a standard democrat taking mainstream democratic stances in all issues holding office in swing state that has been trending right but he seems ridiculously popular. The republicans didn't even bother challenging him in 2018 and he won 70+% of the vote against a Liberatarian while in 2014 a repubican wave he held off a challenger by 10 points.

You think that your average Iowan, or American for that matter, cares about down-ballot offices? He isn't literally burning our state down, so people are content with him.
Ag is probably the second most visible role ahead of governor and he's pro gun control . Harris rode to power through the office.

So? Ask any Iowan who their AG is without looking it up. Your average civilian doesn't care about offices that don't involve the Congress building, the White House, or a governor's mansion. People always either leave it blank or vote for their favorite party in the ballot box.
But they are voting for a different party than their favourite by huge margins.
