As far as a 'Red Wave' goes, this is a negative sign for the GOP more for the momentum aspect rather than being an indication for what could happen in November on a national basis. Alaska is a strange state electorally (and in many other senses) and the current electoral system only adds to it.
As for Palin, she'd have been capable of throwing away an election in just about any kind of environment. She became an embarrassment to the GOP base as well as on a wider scale after she resigned as governor.
The polling in PA, OH etc should be more worrying for the GOP than this result.
