Its amusing how in a Virginia Democrat discord server I am in that they went from calling northam a murderer for not instituting a locldown during his press conference today to being called a historic war hero for sending the va state troopers and national guard into DC.

Lmao. Army of nova I guess?

LMAO, ironic to think that the new Army of Northern Virginia would be fighting to save the United States against an insurrection.

Now that the dust has settled, I hope we can all at least recognize that those calling for the police to fire on the protestors was absolutely insane.  They handled the situation absolutely appropriately and minimized the carnage.  The Congress is already back in session and it doesn't appear that there is any irreparable damage.  It could have been a LOT worse if people had let their emotions direct them.

Are you nuts? The riot got inside the Capitol while the joint session was taking place! I don't know how close the coup was to taking hostage/executing all Democratic members of Congress, but it was too damn close. Those post-9/11 "terrorist protocols" proved their worth today, but what the hell was security doing? They gave way without seemingly any resistance! And you're still saying they handled the situation "appropriately"?

Now this is being hoisted on your own petard. Watch Trump rescind the executive order now. Sorry for the Fox News link.

https://www.foxnews.com/politics/capitol-rioters-prison-trump-executive-order-federal

Quote
Capitol rioters could face up to 10 years in prison under Trump monument executive order

Acting Attorney General Jeffrey Rosen vowed that pro-Trump rioters who entered the U.S. Capitol would "face the full consequences of their actions under the law," and those consequences could include being charged under President Trump's executive order authorizing up to 10 years in prison for "injury of federal property."

I suspect one of these "precautions" is a real military coup. Only it would be exactly the opposite of the coup Trump wanted.

Is it just me, or is the very real possibility that Trump's crimes go well beyond incitement being criminally ignored? European security officials are suspecting that federal law enforcement was directed to enable or assist the attempt coup: https://www.businessinsider.com/trump-attempted-coup-federal-law-enforcement-capitol-police-2021-1

Certainly would explain some of the gross misconduct of Capitol Police, and Trump's refusal to activate the National Guard.

I've believed this since the revelation that Trump had blocked the DC National Guard from being deployed. The media has not really gone at the "Trump tried to overthrow the government" angle, and I agree with you, that's a big disservice.

Liberals would do well to reflect on this quote by Martin Luther King, there is a lot of truth to it with regard to how many Americans feel.

A riot is the language of the unheard - Martin Luther King

If there is one thing on God's green Earth that a trump supporter is not, it's unheard. You can't open a paper without reading yet another profile of one of their diners in the middle of nowhere. They are not an oppressed minority like African Americans in the civil rights era, they are a coddled, romanticized minority that uses violence and corruption to achieve their political goals and to stay in power despite almost always receiving less votes than the majority party.

Don't twist Dr. King's words to defend racists, neo-nazis and murderers. It's disgusting.

All the major institutions, corporations, academia, media, the entertainment industry are opposed to Trump supporters who are ridiculed and often lose their jobs for the views, they are an oppressed group, they are oppressed by all of the major institutions and their voices are not listened to by any major institution in America except for now the WH.

Really? Trump supporters are oppressed by "all the major institutions," even though Trump was elevated to the presidency over the wishes of a plurality of the electorate because of the electoral college and his enablers were able to control the Senate for 4 years because of its extremely disproportionate system of representation? Trump supporters are oppressed by "all the major institutions" when the media would show his empty podiums instead of Hillary's campaign speeches and praise him for his "presidential tone" every time managed to avoid devolving into complete insanity?

That's not even to mention that, as we speak, congressional Republicans are trying to stop impeachment for no other reason than to coddle the delicate feelings of indignant, reality-denying Trump supporters.

Or to make sure QAnon lunatics don’t threaten their families.

So, in other words, they surrender and let the MAGA terrorists win? Things like "bodyguards", "security detail", and "police protection" just don't exist anymore?

It's either that, or they are MAGA terrorist sympathizers and trying to cover up for them.

Even if she followed the law, she should be sacked from the Army anyway.

Quote
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — The Army is investigating a psychological operations officer who led a group of people from North Carolina to the rally in Washington that led up to the deadly riot in the U.S. Capitol by supporters of President Donald Trump.

Commanders at Fort Bragg are reviewing Captain Emily Rainey’s involvement in last week’s events in the nation’s capital, but she said she acted within military regulations and that no one in her group broke the law.

Going back to a previous point, federal prosecutors are charging the rioters with the intent to capture and kill elected officials, anyone still want to deny that?

https://www.cnn.com/2021/01/15/politics/capitol-capture-assassinate-elected-officials/index.html

Quote
(CNN)Federal prosecutors offered the most chilling description yet of rioters who seized the Capitol last week, writing in a new court filing that the intention was "to capture and assassinate elected officials."

The view was included in a memo seeking to keep Jacob Anthony Chansley, who rallied people inside the Capitol using a bullhorn, in detention. According to Capitol Police information included in the filing, Chansley was notable for his headdress, face paint and carrying of a six-foot spear.

"Strong evidence, including Chansley's own words and actions at the Capitol, supports that the intent of the Capitol rioters was to capture and assassinate elected officials in the United States government," government prosecutors wrote.

In an incredible twist of irony, the rejection of masks among people on the right is proving to be the reason most of these rioters are being identified and arrested. You’d think they would have had some idea that maybe it’s a good idea to conceal your identity while committing felonies in front of literally thousands of cameras. But it works!

Not only that, if they wore masks and face shields, they would have also resisted pepper spray and tear gas.
