Never. I grew up surrounded by cow farms and you would hear them, not see them at night. It was well known that they congregated, sitting down underneath trees when it rained which is what I assumed they were doing at night. Not standing around in a field waiting to be tipped.
Cows stand, walk and lay down like cats. Imagine "tipping" a cat. If he doesn't walk away or bite/slap you, he will fall into a laying position. Not helplessly with his feet in the air like this urban legend seems to imply. Now imagine trying to "tip" a 1000 pound cat.
