Sooo the thread title is pretty misleading in that it doesn’t state the actual legal issue in this case. The opinion is about whether a statute passed by the LA legislature that retroactively lifted the statute of limitations (temporarily) for civil suits for child sexual abuse violates the defendant’s due process.
It has nothing to do with blanket immunity from lawsuits for priests.
But as far as I understand it that law was passed because it was the only mechanism to initiate such a lawsuit past the statute of limitations. In blocking it, they have essentially granted that, absent further legislation. (I agree the headline should have specified that statute of limitations was the question)
