Not surprising. Illinois (rightfully) gets a lot of flak for the officeholders they've had go to prison, the Chicago machine, etc., but Louisiana for my money is the most corrupt state in the US. Good ol boys' club that closes ranks around people like this.

Sooo the thread title is pretty misleading in that it doesn’t state the actual legal issue in this case. The opinion is about whether a statute passed by the LA legislature that retroactively lifted the statute of limitations (temporarily) for civil suits for child sexual abuse violates the defendant’s due process.

It has nothing to do with blanket immunity from lawsuits for priests.

But as far as I understand it that law was passed because it was the only mechanism to initiate such a lawsuit past the statute of limitations. In blocking it, they have essentially granted that, absent further legislation. (I agree the headline should have specified that statute of limitations was the question)

It's not the 1960s anymore. Nobody voted against Biden because they thought he would be taking orders from the Pope.

American Southern Catholicism is very much its own beast, so consider the source, but as someone who grew up in the thick of it, I encountered very little, if any, prejudice. To compare it to the Anti-Semitism currently being displayed is madness.

What anti-semtism? If you’re talking about whatever nonsense MTG says, she’s made several explicit anti-Catholic remarks, which were not widely condemned because many people agreed with her.
